I´d never had a bouquet from a florist delivered to the door before

and I was – of course – intrigued. Obviously the whole point of the phrase “secret admirer” is that you don´t know who it is. My mother, who had been in when it arrived, had surmised that the thin black line on the card meant that it had been sent to her funeral by someone who mistakenly thought she was dead. It turned out to be from the AA, as an apology for having left me stranded for ages while they searched for me on the wrong side of the A149!
